VILLAGE INFORMATION
Water/Sewer/Garbage Bills
Water/Sewer/Garbage bills are
payable in full by the first of each month.
Penalty charges are added to those fees not paid in full by this
date. A drop box at Village Hall is available
for after-hour bill payment and other correspondence. For your convenience, an after hours drop box is located at Village
Hall. Any questions regarding the billing may be addressed to the
Village Office.
Snow Ordinance
An odd-even snow ordinance is
in effect from “…from November 1st
to April 30th, when there is an accumulation of snow of two inches
or more on the ground. All vehicles must
park on the proper side of the street in conjunction of the day of the month
after 1:30am on that day.” Special
parking restrictions are in effect for Main Street from Washington Street to
Freedom Street; Railroad Street from Washington Street to Center Street; and
from Main Street to Center, Rantoul, Vernon, and Freedom Streets, from 1:30am
to 6:00am, November 1st to April 30th when there is an
accumulation of snow of two inches or more on the ground. Vehicles parked in the Main Street parking
lot must park at the fence side closest to the railroad tracks.
Downtown Area Parking (after
hours)
Special parking restrictions
are in effect for Main Street from Washington Street to Freedom Street;
Railroad Street from Washington Street to Center Street; and from Main Street
to Mason Street on Center, Rantoul, Vernon, and Freedom Streets, from 1:30am to
6:00am on Friday mornings for street sweeping purposes. During this time, vehicles may be parked in
the main street parking lot.
Public Parking Lots
Public parking lots are
available adjacent to Village Hall, and Main Street downtown.
Garbage Pick-up
Each resident is entitled to
one trash bag/can not to exceed 33 gallons in capacity. If you have more than one bag or can it
requires a garbage sticker. Additional
stickers may be purchased at Sullivan’s, and FS Mini Mart.
Garbage pick-up for residents
begins early Friday morning. It is
recommended that residents set out their trash containers Thursday
evening. NOTE: Pick-up service is delayed one day on all
major holidays that fall on a week day.
Recycling
The Village of Lena
participates in a recycling program in conjunction with garbage pick-up on
Friday mornings. Each resident was
provided with a blue recycle bin for this service. Bins are property of the residence and NOT the resident, and must remain at
that property. A recycling outline is
available at Village Hall.
Brush Pick-Up
Brush pick-up is provided by
the Village on the first and third Mondays of each month as weather
allows. Branches and small sticks should
be placed to the Curbside Sunday evening prior to brush pick-up. Brush from trees that are trimmed or removed
professionally must be removed by the professional, and are not subject to
removal by the Village.
Leaf Vacuuming
Leaf removal is provided by
the Village in both spring and Fall. Leaves should be raked to the curb, but not
in the street. No brush, lawn clippings,
yard waste or other foreign objects may be in the leaf piles or they may not be
removed.
Yard Waste
A dumpster has been provided
for Village residents on one Saturday in the spring and the Fall
for the purpose of yard waste removal.
Any garden or flower bed refuse may be disposed of at this time. Date notices will be posted on LWTV, www.villageoflena.com,
printed on your water bill and in a local newspaper. Lawn clippings are not included.
Lawn Clippings
Lawn clippings are not to be
blown into the street area as it blocks the storm sewer catch basins. Notices will be mailed to those who violate
this request.
No Burning
No open burning allowed
within the Village. Questions should be
directed to the Health and Environment Trustee, or Village Hall.
Tornado Warning
A monotone warning from the
Fire Station indicates a tornado warning.
The signal is similar to the 6:00pm daily “whistle”. Seek shelter immediately, and stay tuned to
local broadcast warnings. No “all clear”
signal is indicated.
Major Power & Telephone Outage/Emergency
In the case of any major
emergency or catastrophic conditions and communication must be made for help,
please report to the Fire Department for Assistance.
Building Permits
The Village has adopted the
National BOCA codes, and inspections are required as per these and state
codes. Building permits are required for
constructing utility sheds, additions, garages, houses, and demolition of any
of the above, patios, decks, porches, driveways, fences, retaining walls,
driveway pillars, signs, or other similar structures. Permits are not needed for re-roofing or
residing a building. Forms are available
at Village Hall, and forms and fees must be paid and approved before
construction may commence. Property line
set back and easements must be indicated on building permit. Questions may be directed to the Zoning and
Planning Trustee, or Village Hall.
J.U.L.I.E. must be called at least 48 hours in advance.
Sidewalk Replacement
Commercial and residential
sidewalk replacement reimbursement forms are available at Village Hall. Each plan has a portion of pre-approved
replacement of sidewalk, and are payable after paid receipts are submitted to
the Transportation and Public Improvements Committee.
Tree Replacement
It is the responsibility of
the property owner to trim trees located in the Village right-of-way. If, after professional inspection, a tree
mush be removed, the property owner will be assessed a fee of $100 which would
include the cost of tree and stump removal, dirt fill, and payment of a new
tree. The type of replacement tree must
be chosen from the Village’s approved tree list. Forms are available at Village Hall for the
tree replacement.
