Development Partners

The Village of Lena and the Lena Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) recognize that by partnering with local, state and federal development agencies Lena is able to expand our economic development resources and increase our ability to meet the needs of business development in Lena.  Since the inception of the LEDC Lena has had a seat at the table for regional economic development planning and has incorporated our local economic goals into regional development efforts as well as included regional efforts into Lena’s economic vision creating a seamless partnership of local, regional and state economic planning.

The following is a list of our closest development partners

Northwest Illinois Development Alliance

NIDA is a not-for-profit corporation, creating a public/private partnership to retain, expand and diversify the economic base of the Freeport/ Stephenson County and Northwest Illinois area.  The LEDC works with NIDA on the issue of developing economic incentives and business retention in Illinois’s Northwest region.  The LEDC has also recently been incorporated as a voting member of NIDA.

Blackhawk Hills Regional Council

The Regional Council is a not-for-profit group promoting economic development and opportunity in the Northwest Region of Illinois.  The Village of Lena often works with the RC&D on development and  infrastructure issues that  promote municipal energy efficiency and business expansion in the Village of Lena.  Lena’s Coordinator of Economic Development and Support Services regularly meets and plans with the RC&D on upcoming and existing projects.

USDA Rural Development

USDA Rural Development programs support essential public facilities and services such as water and sewer systems, housing, health clinics, emergency service facilities and electric and telephone service. Rural Development promotes economic development by supporting loans to businesses through community-managed lending pools as well as development grants to municipalities and non-profit institutions.  The Village of Lena and LEDC both work with Rural Development on various projects.  The LEDC Low Interest Revolving Loan Fund development incentive for local businesses is a result of this partnership.

Freeport/Stephenson County Convention and Visitors Bureau

The Freeport/Stephenson County Convention and Visitors Bureau is the planning body for all major tourist and event attractions in Stephenson County.  Lena’s Coordinator of Economic Development and Support Services is an active member on the CVB Board of Directors.

Lena Business and Professional Association

University of Illinois Extension

University of Illinois Extension is the link between the University and all of our development partners in JoDaviess, Stephenson and Winnebago counties. Extension staff offer practical, research-based education to help area residents improve their lives and communities through learning partnerships that put knowledge to work. The Village of Lena has representation on the Extension Council as well as an ongoing relationship with Extension in community and economic development programs.
